Version 0.5

  • Pages now load sequentially so you don't have to wait as long to start reading.  Additionally, all pages will be downloaded in the background instead of only the 5, 10 or however many pages currently being shown.  A better reading experience :)   (If some pages show the loading icon indefinitely, try changing the orientation.  This will work most of the time.)
  • Improve BleachExile performance.
  • Option to auto-save chapters to SD card.  This option can be changed by hitting Menu -> Settings from the main screen.  There are three options that the user can select.  One, auto-save can be disabled entirely.  Two, auto-save can be applied to only chapters of mangas that have been favorited.  And finally, auto-save can be applied to all chapters (I don't allow saving on a chapter by chapter basis to keep it simple).  The main benefit of auto-saving chapters to the SD card is that you won't need to redownload the chapter when you want to read it again.  Even better, MangaWhat will remember if a chapter has only been partially downloaded so that when you re-read the chapter,  it will only download the pages that haven't been saved yet.  Of course, if something goes horribly wrong, you can choose to redownload the entire chapter by hitting Menu -> More.
  • Option to backup/restore favorites and read chapters.  This may be useful if you need to reinstall MangaWhat and don't want to lose your data.  Or, maybe if you got a new Android phone and want to transfer it over; just backup from the old phone, put the SD card into the new phone and hit restore.
Note:
This version uses a different ad network which requires additional permissions. Don't update if you don't want to give them.  The permissions are 'read phone state' and 'read tasks'.  Their explanation for making these permissions required is:
We need READ_PHONE_STATE to access a unique identifier that some ad networks require to track impressions (See:http://developer.android.com/reference/android/telephony/TelephonyManager.html#getDeviceId() ). The reason some of them choose not to use ANDROID_ID for unique identification is this bug:
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=10603
We use GET_TASKS to prevent users from calling or refreshing ads when the current application is not in the foreground. This prevents wasted impressions for our advertisers, as well as a lower CTR and eCPM for our developers.

  1. app tells me the chapter can't be saved to sd. "sd card missing or low on space" but i have like 6+gb free on sd card.

  2. I have an epic 4g. Everything was working fine before this update. Now the info and the chapters load really slowly, and eventually shoot me back to the manga title list page.

  3. Is there any way to disable the -|+ button that appears every time one touch the screen? If no, could you add that option? It's getting on my nerves. Other than that your program is perfect.

  4. Just Wondering if there is plans on adding a "Tag chapter/title for later download" feature?
this would be good for those who dont have unlimited data on their mobile plans(like me)
you can tag a title or chapter and download it via wifi later

  5. like Colin, a feature to set chapters for downloading (so make a queue) with a "download only on wifi" option would be great (but not essential).

Another thing that should be very useful is an option, on the chapters list, to "set all previous chapters as read".
I switch on your app after reading 500 chapters of a serie... and set, one by one, all the chapters as read is a pain in the ass :D

Anyway, thank you so much for your app, and thanks for your answer to my previous comment ;)

  7. Is this online only, and if so are there plans to have an offline reading mode for when i'm not in a good area?

  8. If you view a manga with more then the amount of pages that is set in settings you will not see any page number beyond it. For example if you read chapter 19 of the manga shitsurakuen in mangawhat you can only see up to page 50 of the 59 pages. (50 is the highest setting offered under options). MangaWhat also gives no indication the additional pages exist (if I hadn't read the manga on a computer previously I wouldn't have know pages were missing).

  9. Android Marker is not availiable in my country. Yet I would like to install this application. Is there another way to get the apk file for this application?

  10. The single page viewer feature provided a workaround for the page limit during multi-page viewing. Another feature that would be nice to see added would be one that tells which manga have been completed (like in the Manga Browser app).

  12. I like this apps very much and thinking of buying it I've compare most of the manga apps in the marke And thought this is the best. Maybe an added suggestion. Seeing manga stream its a weekly chap release. You could add a notification for new favor chapter like mangastream app. Also the 'auto fit' function could improve further so it could auto fit when rotate automatically. Overall good job and keep the upgrade coming.

  13. When I attempt to view a manga in single page mode all I see is a black screen instead of the page. I can view a manga in multi page mode, but then it cuts off at 50 pages. Has anyone else encountered this single page view problem?

  14. Something wrong with manga stream. Some of the chapters didn't download the picture properly. Most of the come out maximise and only a portion of the picture is downloaded

    ReplyDelete
  15. MangaStream issues aren't MangaWhat's fault. MangaStream started chopping up their pages into pieces and combing the pieces on the website itself specifically to stop programs like MangaStream.

  16. On droid 2, not all pages are downloading. Most of the time I am getting about 5 to 10 pages missing per chapter. It does not seem to matter which ones, but a few examples were bleach, elfen lied, freezing, full metal panic, kimi no iru machi, sekirei, suzuka, and unbalance x unbalance. can you please see what may be happening?

  17. Is it possible to have future versions to support MangaHere? They have a lot of rare manga that Manga Fox and Manga Reader don't have.

  20. Is it possible to improved on the Download section? Cos every time there's an error(god knows why..maybe my phone or connections) I've to manually resumes it. And most of of the i would queue hundreds of chapters. Maybe could skip to next chapter to be downloaded if there's an error.

  24. Hello,

First of all I really like your app. It has tons of useful features and it really does it for me.
    My two cents:
    - When you receive a notification that some manga has been updated, you want to download all the chapters you haven't read yet. Maybe the download could add something like that.
    - in the download manager, if downloads were presented in a hierarchical way, we could suspend the download of only one manga, not all of them. It helps managing priorities when you have low bandwidth

  25. i've finished downloading 2 chapters, but when i try to browse offline, the app FCs. works fine when i only have 1 chapter in a folder tho. specifically for shiawase kissa sanchoume. i've deleted and reDLed the chapters but same thing happens: when i click a jpg file, it says building image list then the FC msg box appears.

  26. how's about a rating system for chapters? It can help browsing to read the chapter you want faster

  27. I really like your app! It has some bugs but it is by far the best I ve used! I think I figured one really annoying bug: when I download mangas from Mangafox, if a certain chapter doesnt have a name (its folder is composed only of its number) the app force closes when I try to read it or access mangafox. I would be really happy if you could fix this bug as I think a lot of people have problems whit it - of course I can rename all of the chapters and continue reading, but I thought it would be great if you knew.

  28. This app is awesome and I really enjoy it. I am having some problems that started around December 4, mangafox keeps force closing when I click on a category. I also noticed a lot of people wrote comments on the android market that they were having similar problems. It would be awesome if this bug were to be fixed!

  29. First off, great app, thank you for all the work on it. By far the best that's on the Android.

Looks like the crash on trying to search or load MangaFox is due to the fact that they just completely revamped their site - you may need to redo the code that interfaces with MangaFox.

Also, it'd be great to be able to sort bookmarked manga by the most recently updated/unread so that you could see at a glance what needs to be caught up on.

    ps. ill donate :D

  33. I have to agree with people mentioning the problem on Mangafox. Not sure of the exact reason, but when I try to search or browse, it crashes.
    It's a pity since it's a really great program.
Thanks for your efforts so far.

  40. Hi there, I'm getting some trouble with your app that I'm using since a long long time. Really do like, and I can't seems to be able to use an other app (certainly due to some habits!)
I got forceclose crash each time I close a picture viewer screen, which is quiet bothersome.
It seems that you've moved on and don't work on this anymore, but do you think it could be possible to get your project source code so that I can patch it ? feel free to contact me at goulloux{@t}hotmail.fr
